N-Gas, WAPCo Gas Supply: Ministry Of Power Announces New Accommodation

The Ministry of Power has announced a new accommodation under which the Nigerian Gas Company and the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) will continue with the supply of Gas to the Volta River Authority. The new accommodation brokered amongst all parties in Accra today, was the outcome of high level negotiations which involved the Nigerian Minister of State designate and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu Ibemenam, the Minister of Power, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Seth Terkper and the Chief Executive of VRA, Mr. Kirk Koffi. Other officials who were present at the negotiations included Ing. Bakare Babatunde, Chairman of the Board of N-Gas and Mr. Walter Perez, Managing Director of WAPCo. The agreement came on the heels of a courtesy call on His Excellency, John Dramai Mahama, President of Ghana by a high powered delegation led by the Nigerian Minister designate and Group Managing Director of the NNPC in Kumasi yesterday. A similar delegation led by Dr. Kwabena Donkor, the Minister of Power visited Nigeria last week in the wake of a threat by WAPCo to curtail gas supply to VRA if it failed to settle its outstanding debts by Friday October 16, 2015. N-Gas and WAPCo currently supply around 100 Million Standard Cubic feet of gas daily to Ghana. The Nigeria delegation has since returned to Abuja.
