NDC Drops Tema West Aspirants

TWO PARLIAMENTARY candidates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who have filed their nominations to contest the Tema West Constituency seat have been disqualified by the Vetting Committee of the party.

The two aspirants—Lawyer James Enu and Bill Boglo-Hedo—were said to have been disqualified because they had problems relating to membership card and the endorsement of nomination form by unqualified persons respectively.

Lawyer Enu was also alleged to have forged the signature of a branch executive member at Hope International in Baatsona.

He was further disqualified due to his transfer from Tema Central Constituency to Tema West this year, thus falling short of the required four years’ residence in the constituency before contesting an election.

Meanwhile, Boglo-Hedo was said to have failed to obtain the total number of endorsements from branch executives in the constituency, coupled with other issues such as clarification on his membership particulars. The committee therefore deemed it necessary to kick him out of the contest.

As a result of the disqualification of the aspirants by the party, a new nomination for the constituency will be duly opened for interested party members.

Prior to the disqualification of the candidates, Constituency Chairman Benjamin Doe Ganyo received several threats from supporters of the two aspirants amid attempts to smash his car. He has since been put under a 24-hour police protection.

An earlier suspension of the candidates equally incurred the wrath of the supporters of the two aspirants who attacked the constituency chairman.

The constituency chairman was purported to have told the vetting committee of the party that he did not know the two aspirants as active members of the party in the constituency; hence attracting enemies within the circles of the party, especially supporters of both aspirants.

Also, Mr Nazah Eklu, Branch Chairman of Hope International, who filed a petition against Lawyer Enu, has threatened to go to court if the vetting committee clears the aspirant.

He issued the threat in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, noting that Lawyer Enu forged the signature with the code 230 of the name, Ezekiel Kupualor, and so did not meet the party’s requirements and must be disqualified.

When contacted, Lawyer Enu maintained that he had not received any official notification about his disqualification and that he was looking forward to leading the party in 2016.
