President John Dramani Mahama has declared that the fortunes of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not be hinged on the lapses, internal disunity and conflict brewing in the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Rather, according to the President, it would be based on the verifiable delivery of good governance and projects that are evident for the ordinary Ghanaian.

Addressing a large number of cheering party supporters in Kumasi as part of what he called ''Endorsement Tour'' to solicit support for a 100-per cent vote in the forthcoming congress to endorse him as the party's presidential candidate for the 2016 general election, he was confident the party would secure more than the one million votes in the region.

He described the Ashanti Region as a crucial element of the party's attainment of one touch victory in 2016

He explained that being the third largest region that provided the most votes for the party, the NDC would work assiduously to ensure that it attained it's one million votes in 2016 General Election through increased development projects and good governance as part of the transformation agenda.

Projects

The President added that aside from the numerous development projects both completed and ongoing, his administration had lined up more projects to make life bearable for the people in the region and also accelerate the engagement of businesses.

He mentioned the conclusion of discussion with the French government for the asphalting of roads of over 60 kilometres in the Kumasi metropolis.

President Mahama added that the French government was also providing funding for the Kumasi drainage extension project.

He said the NPP declared the Kumasi Airport as international in 2005 without any facility to match up to its status as an international airport. However, surprisingly, when the NDC government provided the facilities to befit an international airport, some people were casting doubt.

Moves initiated

President Mahama said the NDC had initiated moves to make the party the most internally democratic, efficient, attractive and most modern political party by ensuring that all members have their biodata safely captured for the party so that at the press of a bottom, the details of every member of the party would be available, while the party members were also given the opportunity to have equal say in decision making process in the party.

This, he explained, was to avoid a situation where just a few members had the opportunity to select who would lead the party as a parliamentary candidate or a flag bearer, adding that ''we have really given meaning to the slogan, Power to the people''.

President Mahama urged members and leaders of the party to redouble their efforts to sustain the unity and work very effectively to make the party very attractive, while the government also increased its unprecedented development projects as part of the move to secure the targeted one million votes.

He urged the party kingmakers to select parliamentary candidates who would be voted for to stay the course of winning majority in Parliament and secure a one touch victory and described the forthcoming parliamentary election as a family competition.

General Mosquito

The General Secretary of the party, Mr Asiedu Nketia told the gathering that the NDC did not believe in violently presenting it's case because as a political party that represented majority of the people, it would continue to use legitimate means to present its convincing reason why the voters register should not be changed.

He said in October ending, all political parties and interest groups would have the opportunity to state their case in a 30 minutes presentation and that was what was important and not threats and violent demonstration.

On the party’s parliamentary and presidential primaries, Mr Nketia said the party would set up a review committee to review all challenged cases and ensure that those who were not NDC members would have their names removed from the party register.
