GaDangme Youth protests resettlement of squatters at Adjenkotoku

The GaDangme Youth Association (GYA), says it is against the resettlement of squatters at Sodom and Gomorrah in Accra at Adjenkotoku, saying this would deprive future generations of the indigenes of their inheritance. It is therefore calling for the immediate halt to the proposed re-settlement plan, according to a statement signed in Accra on Wednesday by Herbert Nii Akai Nedttey, Public Relations Officer of GYA. In the event of inaction on the part of the state, the Government and other concerned parties, we shall take steps and measures to recover such lands in the name of posterity, it said. The statement referred to last weeks clash at Agbogblosie market in Accra and noted that although Accra, the nations capital had attained a cosmopolitan status, the people had co-existed peacefully. We will not tolerate any imported fracas which will undermine the peace and tranquillity we all enjoy in our day-to-day activities in the metropolis, it said. The statement said We believe that while the lands in Accra are already (under heavy pressure), the status of the indigenes has not been considered before allocating sites (lands) for the resettlement of squatters who migrate from a known location (homes) and did not serve notice to any authority of their relocation. The Association reiterated its call to revert the name of the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium to Accra Sports Stadium adding we are therefore tasking the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council in consultation with the Regional House of Chiefs to effect this change immediately.
