<<Print>>Branches of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in the United States of America and Canada have vowed to resist any attempt by the Moderator of the Presby church in Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey to ‘destroy’ them.
The Moderator of the Presby churches in the US and Canada, Rev Yaw Nkansah who made this known on Adom FM Friday said Prof. Martey’s behavior is making their church unpopular.
“Prof. Martey’s problem is nothing but full hatred for our former Moderator (Rev Dr Yaw Frimpong Manso, who is currently ministering in the US). He wants to eliminate us one after the other and take charge of our positions. They want to destroy our church but we won’t allow them” he noted.
The Ghana and US branches of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana have been embroiled in a controversy over its relationship with pro-homosexual Presbyterian Church of the United States.
The Presbyterian Church (USA) approved the ordination of gay pastors, elders and deacons in 2011, which led to many conservative congregations leaving the denomination.
Describing the decision as “demonic”, Prof Martey vowed that the Ghana branch will not accept the act because it is a total “deviation from Bible principles.”
“They are developing a strategy to sidetrack the church. We condemn what they have done. We have parted relationship with them,” Rev Prof Martey said.
The US branches of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana insist they have not declared a pro-homosexual stance, and have vowed to resist any attempt to tar them as such.
The Presby Church in Ghana has meanwhile ordered Dr Frimpong Manso to return to Ghana latest December 31, 2015. The back and forth between the two churches has forced Rev. Frimpong Manso, who is the immediate past moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, to quit as a Minister of the church and concentrate as a Minister in the US.
His resignation is due to what he described as gross disrespect to his person and ministry. The Moderator of the Presby Church Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Martey wrote to his predecessor who has been sent to Virginia on assignment asking him to return to Ghana, but Rev Frimpong Manso says he was not consulted before a decision on his fate was decided.
In the meantime, Rev Yaw Nkansah believes Rev. Frimpong Manso’s resignation will rather tear the church apart since he has impacted the lives of Ghanaians in the US positively.
“Rev Yaw Frimpong Manso has indeed brought togetherness in the Presby church that is why he has been there for a very long time and so Prof Martey should think twice and stop destroying us” he lamented.
He accuses Prof. Martey of worshipping in some homosexual churches when he visits the States and therefore could not fathom why he keeps preaching against it.
“Anytime he visits the country, he always joins the 'homosexual' church to worship so I cannot understand why he keeps preaching against it but then worshipping with them at the same time. The fact that we are there (US) does not mean we are practicing it” he stated.
