Students from the Delhi Public School International (DPSI), a world class international school in Tema have qualified to represent Ghana in the World Scholar’s Cup competition at the tournament of champions in U.S.A come next year.

The event was organized at the premises of the school in Community 25 with parents, school authorities and other guests in attendance.

This year’s Ghana edition has seen students from Ghana International School, Angel School and DPSI participating in the competition.

The competitors went through four tough rounds in the race with a writing test in the first and second rounds respectively and a debate in the third and fourth rounds in groups.

In all, 12 out of about 40 students who took part in the contest made the final squad and were awarded with gold trophies.

Explaining the objective of the programme, the director of DPSI, Mr. Mukesh Thakwani, said, “It was organized to inculcate confidence in the children to enable them face any crowd on a stage when performing”.

He added that the programme is aimed at teaching students a sense of competitiveness and participation at a young age to help them overcome challenges in life as they grow.

In an interview with the media, Shawn Owusu, a participant disclosed how the competition has helped him to overcome his fear and shyness.

“I believe that the competition is very informative because I’m a shy type who doesn’t like talking but after participating in the competition last year, I’ve seen much improvement in my confidence level and I can now speak boldly in front of huge crowds,” he uttered.

DPSI won 3 gold trophies and 27 medals at the World Scholar’s Cup in Malaysia last year. The school has won the National Spelling Bee competition for three consecutive years and recorded the highest performance at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in US.

They also received the outstanding school in Ghana award by the World Confederation of Businesses (WORLDCOB) for its holistic education and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
