Immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority, (NHIA), now a Presidential staffer, Sylvester Mensah, has stated that the Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, cannot lead Ghana at age 72 considering that Ghana’s life expectancy currently stands at 65.

Sylvester Mensah, who was harshly criticized particularly by opposition members for what they described as his poor management of the National Health Insurance Scheme, made these comments at the launch of the campaign of Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu in the Volta Region.

According to him, the NPP Flagbearer for the 2016 elections cannot be promising Ghanaians a future when per his age, he cannot be part of that future he seeks to create.

He therefore described Nana Addo as a “liar”.

“If you want to lead this country; and we know that life expectancy in this country today is about 65 years…and you are over 72 years and you want to lead this country into the future; the future that you have no interest in; the future that you cannot live to see; then that person is a liar and has no interest in the development of this country. Let us observe that these people have nothing to offer us; their party has collapsed and the NDC is the only party that is currently standing and running” he emphasized.

NPP is no more; it’s a dead party

Mr. Sylvester Mensah also took a swipe at the leadership of the NPP over their ongoing internal wrangling that has led to the suspension of its party Chairman, Paul Afoko.

The National Executive Committee of the NPP last Friday October 23 unanimously endorsed a recommendation by the party’s disciplinary committee to suspend Paul Afoko for stated misconduct.

In the view of Mr. Mensah, the NPP has collapsed and it’s not worthy to be entrusted with the mandate of governing the country.

He thus called on Ghanaians to rally behind the NDC to continuously offer good governance, since the NPP cannot be a good option.

“The NPP party has collapsed; there is no NPP party anymore. The party has collapsed because of the poor party management skills. The party has collapsed because of deficiency in p0olitical decision making. The party has collapsed because of its dysfunctional leadership model; the party has collapsed because there is divergence in the objectives of the NPP”.As we speak today, the NDC is the only party available” he stated.
