NPP Can't Pick A One-sided Position And Ram It Down Our Throats - Ben Ephson

Until the New Patriotic Party comes out with a cogent argument and puts a stop to storming the premises of ex-presidents, Managing Editor for the Daily Dispatch believes their cry for a new voters’ register would be in vain.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Evening News Monday, Mr. Ephson stated that the NPP would rather worsen their case if they should yield to Gabby Otchere Darko’s call to boycott the EC’s public forum on the need for a new electoral roll.

Mr. Ephson added that should the party boycott the two day event; they would lose the opportunity to explain to Ghanaians why they are calling for a new one.

They (NPP) can’t pick a one sided position and attempt to ram it down the throat of everybody. They ought to argue their case and let everyone see the merits and demerits of it”, he said.

After staging a campaign to get the Electoral Commission compile a new voters’ register, some members of the NPP visited some eminent Ghanaians including our ex-presidents and managed to win them over in their call for a new roll.

During a visit to former President John Agyekum Kufuor, he called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to listen to calls for the compilation of a new voters register ahead of the 2016 elections.

He tasked the EC to evaluate the concerns of Ghanaians who have expressed lack of faith in the old register, which they say is bloated and contains the names of foreigners.

In a separate meeting with ex-president Rawlings, he asked the incumbent government to cooperate with the NPP in accepting the demand for a new register.

But Mr. Ephson stated that “you can’t go and see an ex-president who just say majority of Ghanaians want a new voters’ register. Do you measure the majority of Ghanaians with the eminent people you meet or the number of demonstrations you embark on? I don’t think so; I think we have gone past that stage in this country.”
