NPP Fears Afoko Might Use Partys Letterhead For Bank Transactions

He has been suspended indefinitely by his party’s National Executive Committee [NEC] – but embattled New Patriotic Party National Chairman, Paul Afoko still operates privately as the party’s head.

Paul Afoko issued a statement congratulating Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara on his re-election – he did that not as individual but on behalf of the ‘Elephant’ fraternity on the party’s letterhead.

That has been described by many as an apparent move to demonstrate his determination to call the bluff of NEC decision to suspend him.

This has raised fears in the NPP that Mr. Afoko if not call on to ceased from using party’s belongings including letterhead can cause destruction within the party and all affiliates.

According to the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahen – Paul Afoko is likely to send a communique to the party’s banks either for transactions or appeals which are likely to affect the party.

“Maybe the party is not ready to withdraw the letterhead from him but with his statement issued today, the party will now think deep. Party leaders might think Paul Afoko will write letters to our banks and other places.” He said after admitting that Paul Afoko is a cosigner to some party accounts.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show Ghana Montie Nana Obiri Boahen opined that – “Steering committee and NEC will meet to take a decision on Afoko’s control of the party’s letterhead.”
