Burger Robber Bags Five Years

A Tamale Circuit Court, presided over by John Nabrese, has convicted 32-year-old Johnson Kombian, alias Burger, to five years imprisonment in hard labour for breaking jail in 2005. His accomplices, Fusheini Ibrahim 30, Kona Findi alias Soldier, 32 and Nam Kofi, alias Accra Boy, 23 who were also arrested with him, were however remanded in prison custody to reappear at a later date. Giving the facts of the case, the prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Baah, said Johnson Kombian who led a robbery gang had about 8 high profile criminal activities to his credit after breaking jail in 2005. According to him, Johnson was arrested in January 8, 2005 for robbing a Bank at Garu in the Garu-Timpani district of the Upper East region. He was again arrested for possession of firearms without authority, in addition to stealing a fully loaded AK47 assault rifle from the Nakpanduri police station and was put in jail in Gambaga and Tamale respectively. Continuing with his facts, he disclosed that the convict broke jail in each of the instances and became more dangerous to commuters, residents and the business community wherever he was found. He was reported to have single-handedly gunned down two uniformed military officers at Nakpanduri in 2007 and took away their weapons after a fierce scuffle. Earlier this year, he robbed several persons in Bimbilla and Nakpanduri at gun points, kidnapping some of his victims for an undisclosed ransom in the process. This was followed by murder attempts on one Mathias Jato in his hospital bed after he robbed him at his house and inflicted multiple wounds on him. With collaboration from the two regional commanders from the Northern and Upper East regions, he was finally busted and brought to Tamale where he initially escaped from jail. Only charges of jail breaks were preferred against him. He is expected to face the other charges while in jail, together with his accomplices who are currently on remand.
