Two Deaf Men Fight Over Baby

After six months of legal tussle between two deaf and child, a magistrate’s court at Swedru, in the Central Region, has declared one of them as the father of the child.

This followed a DNA test ordered by the court to establish the paternity.

The test, conducted by the Trust Hospital, a private medical facility in Accra and supervised by the court, settled the long standing quarrel between Oti Adjei and Richard Tsibu, who both claimed responsibility for the child.

The result proved that Adjei is the real father.

The litigation started in January, 2015, when Adjei and Tsibu, both claimed to be the father of the child, who was two weeks old at the time.

Tsibu, a shoemaker and Adjei, unemployed, both claimed to have had an affair with the mother of the child, Freda Ansah, unemployed, also deaf and dumb, at the same time.

The court, presided by Mr. Issac Apeatu, ordered the DNA test, which result declared Adjei as the father of the child.

In a terse ruling, Mr. Apeatu averred: “The DNA test has been dully conducted and submitted by the Trust Hospital, Accra. The statement of response based on analysis of the DNA said Oti Adjei should be considered as the biological father of the child.

“Oti Adjei is, therefore, declared as the father of the child. Oti Adjei should name the child,” he ordered.

Meanwhile, a senior medical practitioner at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital who pleaded anonymity told The Ghanaian Times in an interview at the weekend, that the samples of the blood group of the litigants, the child and (rh) Rhesus factor were considered in determining who was responsible for the pregnancy.

The case has been adjourned to November 2.
