Two Nigerians have been arrested in separate operations with a total of 31 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, meant for export.

Chuku Nwube Ebuka, 34, a Sales Assistant, was arrested at Arena, in Accra with 17 compressed parcels of the hemp that was to be transported to Ivory Coast, and, Keji Omotosho, 20, head porter, was caught with 14 parcels of the ‘wee’ at Circle.

The Deputy Commander of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Timothy Yoosa Bonga, told journalists in Accra yesterday that on October 28, the police received information that Ebuka had in his possession Indian hemp.

ASP Bonga said the police were dispatched to the scene where Ebuka was arrested, a search revealed the 17 compressed parcels of Indian hemp and the suspect admitted ownership of the Indian hemp.

ASP Bonga said on October 28, Omotosho was spotted carrying two bags at Kwame Nkrumah Circle by a complainant.

The Commander said the complainant suspected Omotosho and asked him what he was carrying, but he could not give any answer.

He said the complainant took the bag away from the suspect and a search in the bag revealed 14 parcels of the hemp.

ACP Bonga said the suspect was sent to the Accra Regional Police Command and during interrogation told the police that the substance was for one Alaja who is also a Nigerian friend.

He said the two were currently in the custody of the Police assisting in investigations.
