The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has told the people of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area that the government is ready to return lands that belong to them for development purposes.

He said this in reaction to an appeal made by the Paramount Chief (Konor) of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite II, at a durbar to climax the annual Ngmayem Festival of the people at Odumase-Krobo Friday.

The festival was celebrated on the theme: “Education and Self-Discipline; Tools for Development.”

Mr Amissah-Arthur also promised that the government would see to it that the Kpong Water Station served the people in the Krobo Area who were close to the facility.

He, however, made the people aware of the need for them to pay a token for the water that would be supplied to them to enable the water company to continue its operations.

Mr Amissah-Arthur also said the government had worked hard to overcome challenges such as labour agitation and asked the citizenry to have faith in it.

On development projects in the area, the Vice-President said ongoing work on town roads in the Krobo area as well as the Odumase-Oterkpolu highway would be completed soon.

He said to enable the people in the traditional area to have access to health facilities, the government had also provided a number of CHPS compounds in the area.

Mr Amissah Arthur appealed to the people to ensure a peaceful atmosphere to facilitate the development of the area.

On behalf of the government, he donated 15 crates of assorted drinks, a crate of schnapps and GH¢10,000 to the chiefs and people.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Paramount Chief, Nene Sakite II, lauded the government for the educational infrastructure it had provided in the area.

He said about 125 years ago, the colonial government took over some lands belonging to the Krobos but appeals to subsequent governments to release the land to the people had not yielded any result.
