Some executive members of the Bawku Central Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are alleged to have taken sides with Mr Mahama Ayariga, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP).
They have therefore been accused of campaigning against the other candidates contesting at the primary.
Alhaji Ibrahim Amadu Doori an MP aspirant made the allegation with other party members in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Bawku in the Upper East Region.
Alhaji Doori said most of the executive members were often seen in the company of the incumbent dressed in T-Shirts emblasoned with his picture and name and campaigning for him.
He described the practice as unconstitutional, undemocratic and contrary to the laws of the party.
He indicated that the executives are supposed to be neutral, serving the interest of members of the NDC in the constituency instead of taking sides.
Alhaji Doori noted that the executives are not being fair, adding that their actions could deepen hatred and create an indelible division among party members in the constituency which would not augur well for the party in the 2016 general election.
He said he had made several attempts to contact the executives to help him organise his campaign for the primary but all efforts proved futile.
Mr Sumaila Bielbiel, Constituency Youth Organiser however refuted the allegation and said the executive have not taken sides with any one and that their doors are opened for any party member who need their services.
He explained that Mr Ayariga contacted them to solicit their assistance and they responded positively as that also contribute to the good of the party but that does not mean the executive had taken sides.
Mr Bielbiel said the other candidates, Mr Abdulaih Musah another MP hopeful and Alhaji Doori have not approached any member of the executive to seek for their support.
He said the executive stands to ensure that the party maintains the seat in the constituency and not to lobby for an individual candidate.
“However it is the hope of the entire executive to ensure that there is unity among the party for victory come 2016 general election,” he added.
Mr Bielbiel called on members to desist from destructive comments and concentrate on uniting the party since it is the surest way to maintain the seat.
