Over 2,000 NADMO Workers To Picket At Finance Ministry Over Unpaid Salaries

Some workers of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) say they will picket at the Ministry of Finance today [Monday] to demand their salary arrears.

The over two thousand workers say their decision is as a result of the hardship they are facing.

The workers say they have still not received their salaries after several promises to facilitate the payment in 2013.

One of the employees of NADMO who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity said their salaries have been in arrears for about 30 months.

“We are going to picket at the Ministry of Finance to demand for our salaries that have been in arrears for 30 months. Last year December we went for our biometric exercise but we have still not received a single penny  of our salary.”

“All efforts to get our money have proven futile. We are living in a rented apartment and we need to fulfill some financial obligations…The Ministry of Finance said he has given the clearance but yet still we have not received the money. We want to send a clear signal to them,” he complained.

The workers embarked on a similar exercise in August to demand the payment of their salaries but an assurance by the Chief Director of the finance ministry led to a suspension of the action.
