NPP Krowor In Tatters Adjei-Boye Fingered

It is exactly a year away to Ghana’s General Elections, but the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Krowor Constituency is yet to elect its polling station executives who would eventually elect its Parliamentary candidate, a situation political watchers see may affect the fortunes of the party.

As a result of complete disregard for two court rulings, the constituency is unable to elect a Parliamentary candidate for the party to represent the constituency which was once held by the NPP.

Almost all the other constituencies across the country have completed their primaries but due to diabolic machinations allegedly being spearheaded by one Adjei-Boye who is said to be a Regional officer, the election in the constituency is suffering an indefinite suspension.

Attempts to reach Adjei-Boye who is a former Member of Parliament for the area to react to the allegation against him proved futile.

An Accra Fast Track High Court on 29th August 2014, directed the constituency to annul the polling station executive elections of October 16, 2013 after using their register for the 31st August and 18th October 2014 Presidential aspirant elections of which was done.

The Court presided over by His Lordship Justice Ofori Atta also indicated in his ruling that the register shall become null and void and fresh elections conducted at polling stations; area Coordinators and Constituency levels but that order has not been heeded to by both the National and Regional executives.

 “A new register shall be prepared based on the members elected at the various levels above”, he added.

The ruling read as: Having heard learned counsel for the parties, the following orders are hereby made;

“The present register shall be used for the 31st August and 18th October 2014 elections.

Thereafter the said register shall become null and void and fresh elections shall be conducted at the polling stations; area coordinators and constituency levels.

A new register shall be prepared based on the members elected at the various levels above.

The 3rd Defendant shall file a budget for the said elections within 30 days from 19th October 2014. The parties hereto shall bear the cost of the exercise in a ratio of one to two that is, the Plaintiffs shall bear one-third of the cost of running the elections which shall be held within 30 days of the preparation of the budget.”

One Nii Moi and six others dragged the party as well as Ishmail Ashitey to court seeking the annulment of the Polling register which the court granted.

The defendants clearly unhappy about the ruling of the Court, went on an appeal but the Court threw out the appeal an upheld the earlier ruling but a year down the line, the party is yet to act on the Court order.

In July, 2014, the General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Adjei Agyepong wrote a letter to the Court informing it of plans to settle the matter in-house but ever since that letter, nothing positive has been achieved.

Please stay tuned.
