Engineers Asked To Rise And Build Ghana

The Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), Ing. Owura K. Sarfo has asked Engineers in the country to rise and build the nation. The affable CEO of MiDA made this call when he delivered his keynote address as the Special Guest of Honour at the 2nd Edition of the Engineering Excellence Awards held at the Auditorium of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra on Saturday, 31st October, 2015. Speaking on the theme: �Engineers, rise up and reconstruct the nation�, Ing. Sarfo appealed to Engineers in the country to take active role and interest in the developmental projects that are on-going in the country to ensure they are of quality and sustainable now and can stand the test of time. The President of Ghana Institution of Engineers, Ing. Kwaku Boampong in his welcome address said that the global engineering profession has recognized the reality of shrinking resources, the desire for sustainable practices & design and the need for social equity in the consumption of resources. Quoting John Rusking, a philosopher, Ing. Boampong said: �When we build, let it not be for present use alone. Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for�. The need for us to be innovative in the planning and design of our infrastructure for sustainable and resilient environment can therefore not be over-emphasized�. Ing. Boampong added that in order to accomplish the objective of attracting youngsters to science and engineering, this year�s awards recognized second cycle institutions for innovation.
