Nana Addo Attends NPP NEC Meeting Despite Afoko 'Injunction'

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have joined other party leaders at the ongoing meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP.

The two joined several NEC members of the party including Communications Director, Nana Akomea, Organiser, John Boadu, Youth Organiser, Sammi Awuku, Haruna Esseku and several other big wigs of the party and are deliberating on the way forward for the political party.

The meeting is being held at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down, Accra.

Suspended party chairman, Paul Afoko yesterday in a release called on NPP’s NEC members not to attend the meeting called by acting National Chairman, Freddie Blay which he deems illegal because he has filed a writ in court seeking an injunction on his suspension.

The case has not been called yet.

The release signed by the spokesperson to Mr. Afoko, Nana Yaw Osei also claimed that the meeting was illegal as the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong has not been ordered by him to call any meeting.

“Mr. Afoko wishes to state that he has not called any meeting and neither has the General Secretary, Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong issued any notice inviting members to attend any meeting.

"Let all members of the National Executive Committee and/or National Council take notice of an interim injunction has been served on the party and Mr. Freddie Blay from holding any meetings and also holding himself out as the acting national chairman, until the substantive motion is heard and disposed of…,” the statement read.

But his complaints notwithstanding, the meeting is currently underway with the flagbearer and the Vice in attendance.

Adom FM’s Afia Amankwaah Tamakloe reports from the NPP’s headquarters that there is tight security at the location and media men are not allowed into the compound.

Issues to be discussed at the meeting include the just ended forum of the Electoral Commission on the NPP’s call for compilation of a new voters’ register and the impending bye-elections in Amenfi West constituency.
