Compensate Our Activists You Wrongly Jailed- NPP To Govt

The Northern Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling on government to compensate its party activists who according to the secretariat were 'unjustly detained' in prison custody for seven years for an offense they did not commit

Yahuza Yakubu, Majeed Alhassan, Habib Mohammed Dagbana, Shaibu Alhassan and Moro Gundaana were jailed over the murder of Alhassan Rashid, an NDC youth activist.

In an earlier ruling, a seven member jury presided over by Justice Lawrence Mensah ruled that one of the men, Yahuza Yakubu, was to be hanged to death.

He was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to murder. The rest, Majeed Alhassan, Alhassan Sayibu, Habib Mohammed Dagbana and Imoro Gundaana were to serve 36 years in prison for conspiracy to murder.

But they were freed by the Court of Appeal in Kumasi.

The party however observed  the incarceration of its five (5) activists was a politically motivated venture.

The Secretariat said it noted with concern and deep sorrow that the integrity and economic fortunes of these "gallant" activists has been badly damaged, their families traumatized and their contribution to the party has also been affected greatly.

The statement continued "it is on these basis that the NPP Regional Secretariat is urgently calling on the government to immediately organize a compensation package to enable them re-integrate in the society"

The party is also calling on the security agencies to work with speed to identify and apprehend those who attacked one Mr. Bawa Baako, physically assaulted his wife, burnt down all his cars and set his house alight at Gumbihini a suburb of Tamale

It is also appealing to the Gender Ministry to get involved to ensure justice for Mrs. Sadia Bawa Baako who was badly manhandled during the attack on their home

The Secretariat finally urge all supporters of the NPP to remained resolute behind the leadership in the region, so that together they can deliver more parliamentary seats in the region to the party and the flagbearer.
