Akufo-Addo Cannot Even Be President Of Somalia..., Justice Norvor

Justice Dansu Norvor, a member of the Young Democrats of the NDC has said that even though Ghana has witnessed revolutions and survived, the call by Sammy Awuku for Ghanaian youth to rise for a revolution is a cowardly pronouncement which must be condemned not only by well-meaning Ghanaians but even the violent-infested leadership of the NPP.

He said what Sammy Awuku has failed to know is that by the happenings in the NPP since Nana Akufo-Addo took over the party’s leadership from John Agyekum Kuffor, even the people of the perpetually-troubled Somalia will reject Nana Akufo Addo as president.

Many would have thought the unfortunate death of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Alhaji Adams Mahama will give Ghanaian politicians especially those in the NPP some useful lessons and abridge the level of divisions and violence in the NPP but as things turned to be, there is looming humanitarian crisis to hit Ghana if the security agencies do not check-control Sammy Awuku and his likes”.

According to Mr. Norvor, the once peaceful country where an entrenched democratic culture has allowed for even the President of the country to be insulted is now a place of fear and suspicion just because someone in the NPP wants to become President come what may.

Now, all NPP party executives walk, eat and sleep with bodyguards for fear of their lives being taken by their own party members. From chairman Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong, Freddie Blay, to Hackman Owusu Agyeman and a host of others cannot move freely across the country without body guards. What then will become of ordinary Ghanaians who may not afford the services of body guards if Nana Akuffo Addo mistakenly becomes President of Ghana?”, Mr. Norvor queried.

The former Secretary to the Young Democrats of the NDC lamented that if the likes of Kuffour, Mpianim,  Afoko , Agyapong, Hackman, Wontumi and many other top members of the NPP were even threatened by their own members, what about the ordinary Ghanaian on the streets.

I have heard some top political figures in Ghana in recent weeks even getting distrust of people coming around them in the night for fear of violent attacks including acid attacks. Where have we gone wrong as a country to deserve this uneasiness and insecurity from Nana Akuffo Addo and the NPP? We are all leaving in fear, if they can kill their own in very barbaric circumstances, subject their National Chairman and General Secretary to violent attacks,  who are we as ordinary citizens to be safe in their hands?” Mr. Norvor asked.

He said the NPP had some decent people but the quest for political power for someone to be President at all cost was creating a humanitarian crisis of escalating proportion for all Ghanaians.

Mr. Norvor was of the believe that the brutal murder of Alhaji Adams and the subsequent violence in the NPP will forever haunt the country if the Nana Akufo Addo led NPP  was allowed to continue this violence, contract attacks and killing of innocent Ghanaians.

It is therefore critical that Ghanaians give the opposition NPP an ultimatum to maintain peace within its ranks or face total blackout on its political activities”, he said.

He said Sammy Awuku and the leadership of the NPP must be mindful of the fact that, as Ghanaians, we have the inalienable rights protected by the constitution to express our views, divergent as it may be without intimidation and fear of attacks.

“Meeting of National Chairman and Gen. Secretary was disrupted in Upper East region by violent thugs, few days later, the regional chairman Alhaji Adams was murdered in cold blood, gunshots were heard during a meeting of the Afoko factions in Kumasi, former President Kuffour and his Chief of staff were later accused by a leading member of the party as being behind the murder, factions loyal to both parties in the feud crashed to take control of party headquarters with many injured, Chairman Afoko now suspended, General secretary Kwabena Agyepong attacked and car vandalized some top party members are crying for their safety, and now the party Youth Organizer, Sammy Awuku is calling for youth uprising. Are these series of events not a humanitarian crisis for all Ghanaians?” the youth activist queried.

He said as a party seeking the mandate of Ghanaians to rule the country, the NPP needed to prove to Ghanaians that the party was a better alternative to the ruling NDC,  yet the leadership of Nana Akufo Addo had only known violence since President Kuffour handed over the party’s leadership.

According to Mr  Norvor, the latest developments about the fuse between Nana Akufo -Addo and the Afoko & Agyapong factions is the refusal of the two party executives to pay debts owed Prudential Bank through mischievous transactions involving Nana’s cronies. This is complicated by the transfer of party funds by Hon. Freddie Blay and the National Treasurer, Kwabena Abankwa-Yeboah without the knowledge of the party Chairman and General Secretary.

It is not far from concluding that had the NPP won the 2012 elections, the Ghanaian public purse would have been used to pay for NPP debts secured through dubious means. So where lies the accountability, transparency and the rule of law which John Agyekum Kuffour once championed?

Mr. Norvor urged Ghanaians to reject Nana Akufo Addo just like even lawless Somalia would do, and to give President John Mahama an 80% electoral victory to confirm the tried and tested Ghanaian abhorrence to violence that Nana Addo and his protégé Sammy Awuku are preaching.
