Afoko Says Thank You To Supporters After Thursdays Bravado

Embattled National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Awentami Afoko has expressed gratitude to his supporters after they massed up at different locations in Accra on Thursday to call for his reinstatement.
In a statement issued on his behalf by his spokesperson, Nana Yaw Osei, Mr Afoko emphasized that what is happening in the NPP is simply a subversion of the party’s constitution.

“I commend those who poured onto the streets of Accra in defence of our party constitution for their bravery, love for unity and the rule of law,” the statement from Mr Afoko’s camp said.

A statement issued two weeks ago announced the indefinite suspension of Mr Afoko from his position after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

But that announcement was rejected by Mr Afoko, who adduced that the meeting was illegal.

Efforts to get an Accra High Court to overturn NPP’s decision proved futile after the court dismissed a suit filed by one Oppong Kyekyeku.

A press conference was held on Thursday while a petition was also sent to the party’s headquarters, both impressing on the party's executives to reinstate Mr Afoko.

“I also commend the organisers for putting together incident-free public events like what we saw on TV and heard on radio," the statement said.

“If we can exhibit such bravado in love and unity, there is no way the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot win next year's general elections.”
