Asawase NPP Office Vandalized Over Stabbing To Death Of NPP Member

Angry members of the New Patriotic Party in Asawase in the Ashanti region have vandalized the party’s constituency office following the stabbing to death of one Abubakar Saddiq, a member of the party.
The group has also threatened to fish out the constituency chairman and attack him if the police fail to arrest him within 24 hours.

There is volatile tension around the Asawase area following the stabbing of the known NPP activist. It is however unclear what led to the attack on Saddiq but eyewitnesses say he was part of a group that threatened to attack the constituency chairman, one Brenya.

Mr. Brenya has been accused of passing some unsavoury comments about the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo and was one of the sponsors for the Paul Afoko supporters that stormed the party’s headquarters on Wednesday, demanding the reinstatement of Mr. Afoko as National Chairman.

Speaking to TV3, the spokesperson of the angry youth who is known as Omar said “they killed our brother because of politics… We give the police 24 hours to arrest the constituency chairman, Brenya, the constituency organizer and the deputy womens’ organizer.

“The three of them were around when the stabbing of our brother took place. We need those 3 people otherwise after 24 hours we would know what to do.”

Upon arrival at the scene of the stabbing, the deputy regional organizer of the party, Osei Agyeman said “all I can say is to send a big condolence to the bereaved family on behalf of the flagbearer and leadership of the party. This is very unfortunate and from here I would be reporting officially to my superiors.

“It is an uncalled for situation and I would be reporting to the regional organizer and from there you would here officially from the regional secretary.”

The main opposition has in the last few days been fraught with demonstrations and legal suits following the suspension of the national chairman of the party, Paul Afoko.
