Akweley Ready To Cause Upsets In Ablekuma West NDC

The second runner-up for  TV3’s 2011 Ghana Most Beautiful Contest, Mantey-Amoo Jacqueline Akweley, is set to cause major upsets in the Ablekuma West Constituency primary come 21st November, this year, when the party delegates go to the polls to elect a candidate for the house of legislature for the 2016 general elections.

What is towering her amongst the three other contestants, this paper found; is the tag that even though the she is youngest amongst them, Akweley, as the CEO of Clean Ghana Foundation, is fondly called is not the kind that would pick from the people to line her pocket.

Her love for politics came to bear when she was made one of the main youth activists in the 2012 election campaign for the ruling NDC party.

Mantey-Amoo Jacqueline Akweley, the eldest of four sisters, is a 2003 product of Mfantiman Girl's Secondary School. She proceeded to the University of Ghana (Legon), where she graduated with Second Class Upper in Sociology in 2008, after becoming the first Female Organising Secretary of Legon Hall.

Akweley, aside her other commitments is the AMA/Zoomlion Sanitation Ambassador and is also an Ambassador of the Millennium Development Goals under the United Nations, and the brand Ambassador for Phylfry Cooking Oil.

Akweley loves to help young people in the country and her club (Pretty Ladies Club), helps young ladies who have interest in ushering do so with ease.

Other contenders in the race are Mr. Prince-Derek Adjei, a former Deputy Co-ordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme, 57-year-old proprietress and a teacher of the Kiddyland School, Dansoman SSNIT Flats, Mrs. Dina Twum, , and Ms Marian Korkor Ayertey, also  a businesswoman.

If she scales the primary hurdle, the AMA/Zoomlion Sanitation Ambassador would be coming up against the incumbent New Patriotic Party’ (NPP)  Member of Parliament for the constituency, Ursula Owusu, but already, NDC apparatchikis in the area say it is like to be yet another biblical David and Goliath battle, with Akweley as the former and Ursula as the latter.
