Amidu Lied; He Should Just Apologise To Anas Omane Boamah

Communications Minister, Edward Omane Boamah has debunked claims by the Citizen Vigilante, Martin Amidu that the Government of Ghana commissioned ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas to investigate acts of corruption in the judiciary.

The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu in an article, claimed that the government intentionally commissioned Anas to investigate corruption in the judiciary after losing a number of cases.

“…The undercover investigation that led to the judicial corruption exposé was commissioned by the Government of Ghana and has its genesis in the acrimonious relationship between the Government and the Judiciary on the assumption of power in 2009 by the Government and the constant demand by the Judiciary for proof of judicial corruption from Government and its associates,” he wrote in his article.

“The Government ought to be congratulated for its ingenuity in being able to suppress parts of the truth and to turn the displeasure of public anger away from political corruption to only judicial corruption and to take all the credit. The ingenuity, however, becomes farcical when the Attorney General grants immunity and protection to entrepreneurial Government Commissioned undercover agents who collaborate with established security agencies as independent whistleblowers under the Whistleblowers Act, 2006 (Act 720) and contrary to the prohibition of the Police Service (Private Security Organizations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571),” Martin Amidu added.

Even though the Managing Editor of the New Crusdaing Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako and Anas have come to debunk the citizen vigilante's claims, he (Martin Amidu) says “I stand by everything contained in my statement of today on the attempt to suppress political corruption with the commissioned judicial corruption investigations,”

Speaking in an interview to the issue, the Communication Minister also debunked claims that government commissioned Anas to conduct the investigation and called on Martin Amidu to apologise to Anas and the TigerEye PI team for spreading falsehood about them.

"I respect him a lot but I believe he knows what he is saying is not true…I will plead with him to think more carefully of anything he says….it is unfortunate that he is demeaning the work of TigerEye P.I. It is not true government initiated this work… he (Martin Amidu) should just render an apology to the gentleman… the fact of the matter is; whether you are a former Attorney General…does not give you the license that you know everything that happens in government" he stated on PEACE FM morning show 'Kokrokoo'.

Omane Boamah further indicated that even if government had commissioned Anas to dig out the rot in our judiciary system, " it would have even indicated that we are willing to fight corruption but in this case there was nothing like that"

"Between now and 10 am; if he has such evidence, he should just bring it out without any delays. He is just diverting attention…Ghanaians means business and so we encourage him to bring out such evidence otherwise, he should just come out and apologise to Tiger Eye and Anas. As for us in government, we are used to his antics and so we will not ask him to apologise….Even if government had collaborated with Anas, it would have even indicated that we are willing to fight corruption but in this case there was nothing like that" he added.
