The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the Asawase constituency, Muntaka Mubarak is predicting reprisal attacks in the area if those who killed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) member are not dealt with.
“I believe that the only thing that can prevent the escalation of this is when people see that justice is being done. If not I’m afraid, it’s the place that I was born and I know my community very well, the tendency for that family to may want to take a revenge is very high,” he said.
Abubakar Sadique, an NPP activist was stabbed to death last Friday for allegedly threatening to beat up the constituency chairman who is reported to have made some unpleasant comments about the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akuffo Addo.
The Police has so far arrested the constituency chairman, Mr. Brenya and six others suspected to have masterminded the attack.
In an interview with Citi News’ Richard Dela Sky, the Asawase MP assured that justice will served while calling on the residents to volunteer information that could aid the Police investigate the matter to its logical conclusion.
“Let’s assist the Police with the information. All individuals who have any information, no matter how minute it is maybe people might have taken videos, pictures of the happenings in front of the party. if they are afraid to go before the Police, the MCE is there and I’m there, there are so may elders of the NPP within our constituency,” he added.
Muntaka lamented that the killing of the NPP will hinder the peace that the Asawase constituency had enjoyed over the years.
The Asawase legislator also assured that he together with the Municipal Chief Executive of the area and the Police “will not allow the perpetrators to go unpunished.”
“We can have political parties come and go but we can have only one Asawase. We are achieving a lot of security stability in these days and it’s shocking that this has happened which is going to retrogress the security in the constituency, this is unfortunate. I think that this is not an issue of NPP or NDC, it could have happened within our own party. We know our community and we know the consequences of not having justice. We will not allow this to go unpunished,” he added.
