ACE BROADCASTER and host of popular TV show “Edziban” on TV3, Seth Kwame Dzokoto, will be off the airwaves if he secures the mandate to contest on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency of the Western Region after the party’s parliamentary primary this Saturday.
The affable broadcaster is certain of victory and projects winning by 75 percent of the votes that will be cast.
Speaking to the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview, the parliamentary hopeful said he has not exhausted his God given talent and believes that the time has come for him to explore other avenues where his services are needed.
“When I win, it means I would be representing my people, that is going to be my full time career, I should concentrate and serve them well, if I’m to be in Accra, I’m already in Accra, if I’m supposed to be in the constituency, I will be there, so I’m going to devote my time to serve,” he emphasized.
“…They will miss me. I have also served my purpose, in that aspect. I have been in this showbiz business for close to 19 years, so I have done my part, I think it’s time I leave the scene for other people to take up their chances, that is why if you go to the corporate world they say you have to go on retirement, but for showbiz, you don’t last long.”
Mr. Dzokoto, one of the many journalists who will be contesting for a parliamentary seat ahead of the 2016 elections also told the paper that, his interaction with his constituency has brought to light the problem facing them and he has in stock a clear action plan to deal with their problems.
“We have gone through the branches. In fact, we have spoken to them. It is quite encouraging; generally, people are saying how can they get employed? That is generally the problem of the youth, so we have a clear plan of action to solve their problems.
“…After going through the branches, I have actually identified what their needs are and that is what we are going to address. They have assured me and in my own estimation I’m going to win by 75% margin. The message was so simple, “Our MP, Our Friend,” he explained.
True friend
Touching on whether his experience as a journalist has any bearing on his campaign message he replied in the affirmative saying, “I’m a friend that will identify with what they need and that if they need a CHPS compound, bore holes and better roads, I should lobby so that such developmental projects can go on.”
“…That is why, they are saying that I will be a true friend because I’m somebody who is accessible and they believe that when they want me they can find me, and when they are looking for me they can find me, so that has helped a lot and they are not also suffering in identifying the personality, but with elections you need not be complacent.”
No boss, no servant
According to him, even if he becomes an MP for his area, he will never shirk his ‘Master of Ceremony’ role as people are thinking because it is his “passion and has love for it.”
Asked if he would continue to officiate programmes, he replied in the affirmative, saying, “this is not going to be the last one. You see, it is something I love and I do it with passion, it is actually not the business aspect of it that I’m looking at.”
For instance, he said, “If a friend is organizing an outdooring and I’m around, I don’t see the reason why he should go and hire someone to do it for him. I’m not going to be an MP who is going to be like a boss and servant. I’m not that type. We are friends and we’re all moving together.
