The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called for political tolerance and condemned politics of intimidation, murder, and use of abusive language in national discourse.
The NCCE cautioned that the internal wrangling within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have the potential to disturb the peace and stability of the country, and reminds all political parties to conduct their activities with regards to the Political parties code of conduct and the 1992 Constitution.
The NCCE in a statement signed by Mrs Joyce Afutu, Director, Communications and Corporate Affairs and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, also reminded the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to conduct its upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary primaries slated for November 21 within decorum.
“Ahead of Elections 2016, and the on-going discourse on a new voters’ register, the NCCE calls on all Ghanaians and key stakeholders particularly the political parties to tolerate, respect and accept their differences, articulating concerns in a peaceful manner to enhance democratic political dialogue,” the statement said.
The NCCE further enjoined all political parties to shape the political will of the people as well as to conduct their activities in conformity with the constitution.
“It is imperative for all political parties to show tolerance and appreciate the fundamental human rights of other people even as we enjoy our rights as citizens,” the NCCE stated.
