The 2012 flagbearer of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) says president John Mahama must have a big heart to accommodate criticisms that will come from his opponents.
Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom says the president cannot be reacting to criticisms in a manner that will detract from the dignity of the presidency.
He was reacting to the controversial outburst from president John Mahama. The president during a Changing lives tour rally at the Trade Fair in Accra hit back at his political opponents for daring to describe him as incompetent.
According to the president his opponents, particularly the vice presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party have never been president before and are in no position to describe him as incompetent.
He would rather ex-presidents John Kufuor and Rawlings or the people of Ghana describe him as incompetent, not Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The president's outburst has triggered mixed reaction from the general public. While supporters of the governing party have defended and rationalised the comments, critics, especially from the opposition New Patriotic Party have been quick to condemn the president.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, Wednesday, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom was unhappy with the comments by the president.
"That is not what we expect from our president," Dr Nduom said, adding, the utterances shows "the president is frustrated."
If you desire to be president, you must be ready to carry the burden of the state and accommodate the criticisms that come along with it, he reminded the president.
"What has been said are not insults. They are criticisms," he said.
Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom also raised issues about the timing of the president's Changing Lives campaign tours which he describes as rallies.
"We are not in 2016 yet, this is not time for rallies. We must demand that he works for us and not to go campaigning," he stated.
