Dont Charge Illegal School Fees - Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to heads of public senior high schools (shs) who are charging illegal school fees that they risk severe sanctions if they do not stop the practice.

""We will suspend you or remove you from office. I am very serious so if heads of schools are listening, they should abide by the schedule announced by the Ghana Education Service (GES), " he said

President Mahama gave the warning at the inauguration of the Nkwanta Community Day SHS in the Volta Region on Wednesday.

Bureau of National Investigations
He said the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) had been tasked to go round all SHSs in the country to fish out offending school heads .

The president said recently he was handed the bill of a student and one item indicated incentive with the charge of GH¢ß∑10, adding that the charge was illegal.

The community schools
With barely a year left on his first term, President Mahama inaugurated the third Community Day Senior High School, shrugging off suggestions that the government may not be able to deliver the 200 schools he promised the people of Ghana.

He said everything was being done to complete the remaining projects already under contract. The E-shaped four-storey edifice has facilities including 24 classrooms, eight staff offices, four science laboratories, a library, an ICT laboratory and an assembly hall.

He had earlier inaugurated two of the schools at Ekumfi Otuam in the Central Region, named after the late President Mills, and the Gwiraman Community SHS at Bamianko in the Nzema East District in  the Western Region.

The Community Day SHS was an election promise of the President. The president said the school would improve access to SHS education in the area. He said when the 123 community schools awarded on contract were completed, they would provide 240,000 new SHS placings.

Education Minister
The Minister of Education, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, said the community day SHS was one of the best things to happen to education in the country.
