Ballot Box Snatcher Nabbed In Nanton NDC Primary

A police and military team deployed to maintain law and order at the Nanton Constituency in the Northern Region in the ongoing primaries of the National Democratic Congress has arrested a young man who attempted to snatch a ballot box from the Nanton English and Arabic (E/A) Primary School voting centre.

Abdul Rahman Alhassan who is in the custody of the Police and Military team, in the full glare of the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr. Murtala Mohammed went in for the ballot box but in the process of bolting away with it he was arrested by the police and the military personnel there.

The culprit was with another youngman on a motorbike who approached the voting centre but his accomplice sped off with the motorbike.
Mr. Murtala, who is also a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry intervened but the security personnel did not yield to his request for the culprit to be released to him.

Murtala Mohammed is being contested by Dr. Salifu Yakubu for the Nanton seat.

The Nanton constituency was declared as one of the flashpoints in the Northern Region by the Regional Police Command and the Regional Secretariat of the party ahead of the Presidential and Parliamentary Primaries.

Meanwhile, the Regional Director of Election, Mr. Rashid Tanko Computer has described the process as smooth except the shortage of voting materials which has since been replenished and some pockets of incidents reported in some of the constituencies.
