The Chief of staff, Julius Debrah has underscored the need for effective partnership between government and the private sector in dealing with challenges of sanitation.

He argued that private sector operators have won the confidence of all stakeholders in the sanitation sector with their good work.

Speaking at the Maiden Diplomatic Dialogue which focused on sanitation, Mr. Debrah said the Mahama administration is committed to dealing with the issues of sanitation in Ghana with support from the private sector.

“We have been used to government-led activities for a very long time but where we are now all over the world it has become very necessary for government and the private sector to partner so as to ensure that the process moves faster in tackling the challenges of sanitation in our country,” he said.

A panel discussion on the how best to foster private sector participation in the sanitation sector was held at the dialogue.

In attendance were members of the diplomatic community, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Collins Dauda, AMA Boss Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuiye and members of the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA).

For his part, the President of the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA), Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong of Zoomlion called on stakeholders in the sanitation sector to look at proper sanitation as part of encouraging a healthy lifestyle and demonstrated practical steps that members Of ESPA had taken to address some challenges in waste management in the country.

This interactive encounter was the first in the series of the Diplomatic Dialogues which seeks to bring together experts in various sectors to harness their cross- border knowledge base for national development. Subsequent Dialogues are to be expected in the coming months.
