No Democratic, Free And Fair Election Has Given Any Candidate 100% Vote - Kofi Adams

National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams says it is no news and surprise that President John Mahama pulled 95.10 percent votes to secure the Presidential slot for the NDC in the 2016 election even though he went unopposed.

According to him, it is impossible for any candidate in a democratic, free and fair election to secure 100 percent votes as people have their right to make a choice.

President John Mahama secured an overwhelming 1,199, 118 'Yes' votes representing 95.10 per cent from party members in a presidential primaries held on Saturday and Sunday; though he went into the contest unopposed, he had to be endorsed per the rules of the party.

Out of a total of 1, 286 728 party members who cast their votes, 61,836 voted 'No' in relation to President Mahama’s candidature in 265 out of 275 constituencies. The "No" votes represented 4.90 per cent of a total 1, 260 954 valid votes cast.

Rejected ballots representing 2 per cent were 25,774.

But Kofi Adams on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show argued that “no democratic, free and fair elections have given 100 percent votes to a candidate”.

Touching on the lesson emanating from the rejected ballots, Kofi Adams charged his party executives in charge of research and elections to educate the electorates on how to vote as significant number of votes were rejected in the last 2012 elections, taking the third position in that election.

One key lesson in this primaries is voting education; it is critical so far as the 2012 election and our primaries are concerned, we have to educate our members on how to vote,” he charged.
