I am Not A Politician - They Owe Me And I Want My Money.

The District Chief Executive (DEC) for Awutu-Senya, Mr Adams Nuhus future plans are hanging in the balance as he has been dealt a heavy blow by the Osaka family, the landlords of his office accommodation located at Awutu-Bereku in the Central Region. Residents living close to the DCEs office at Awutu-Bereku on September 2, 2009, witnessed a drama when the angry landlords of the Awutu-Senya District Assemblys office thronged the place to lock-up the entire storey building after both parties had failed to agree on rent conditions. The action by the angry landlords which has plunged the DCEs vision into oblivion follows a letter of ejection dated August 27, 2009 written and signed by Madam Felicia Amartei on behalf of the Osaka Family and copied to the DCE requesting him to vacate the premises before September 1, 2009 pending the Assemblys ability to settle completely its rent advance. The letter, which was also copied to the office of the District Rent Control, also followed the assemblys failure to keep the environment and the building in good shape since it occupied the building as its district office from November 2007 till date. Speaking in an interview with The Independent, Madam Amartei said, the assembly owes her family an outstanding of GH600,000 adding that, all efforts to get the assembly to pay the money have proved futile. As a result we were left with no other option than to lock-up the place, she said. Describing the assemblys failure to fulfill the rent agreement as an unfortunate development, Madam Amartei stated that, the last time her family met with the DCE, both parties agreed that, the Assembly should pay three hundred and sixty thousand Ghana Cedis (GH360,000,000) to the landlords and use the remaining two hundred and forty thousand Ghana cedis (GH240,000) to renovate the place. But when we later went to him for the money, the story was different, she told newsmen. The leader of Osaka family, Madam Amartei explained that, the DCE apparently refused to pay the (GH360,000) as he promised, but wanted to renovate the place. She blamed the members of the Awutu Traditional Council for not telling them the truth initially.According to her, the traditional council did not tell the landlords initially that, they wanted to use the place as the district assemblys office. Meanwhile, speculations, making the rounds are that, the action by the landlords was politically-motivated since the family members could have taken the decision against the previous DCE under the Kufuor-led government. But when asked to clear the air on those speculations, Madam Amartei refuted outright the allegation, saying, I am not a politician and I dont do politics, they owe me and I want my money.
