'Fallen' NDC MPs Dodge Parliament

Incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) who lost their bids to contest the 2016 polls on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed to attend parliamentary proceedings on yesterday.

The move was to avoid getting teased by their colleague MPs in the Minority and others from the Majority who either won their bids or failed to contest the primaries.

The absentees included Ningo-Prampram MP, E.T. Mensah; Klottey Korle MP, Nii Armah Ashietey, and North Dayi MP, George Loh.

Others are Emmanuel Aboagye-Didieye, who is the sitting MP for Afram Plains North; former Road and Highways Minister and MP for Central Tongu, Joe Gidisu; Ayawaso North MP, Mustapha Ahmed; and Adentan MP, Nii Ashie Moore.

The rest are Deputy Agriculture Minister and MP for Mion, Dr Alhassan Ahmed Yakubu; Simon Edem of South Dayi; MP for Daboya/Mankarigu, Abudu Nelson; Francis Kojo Arthur of Gomoa West; Ameen Salifu of Wa East; and Anthony Christian Dadzie of Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese.

In the absence of the Majority Leader, his deputy, Alfred Kwame Agbesi, who lost in the Ashaiman contest, struggled to compose himself and perform the task of a Majority Leader to expectation.

His demeanour showed clearly that he had really been affected by the defeat in Ashaiman over the weekend.

The MP kept fumbling anytime he stood to address the Chair and also appeared to be jittery as he sat uncomfortably in his seat.

The Minority members of the House heckled Mr Agbesi, and the teasing got worse every time he fumbled in his submissions to the Chair.

The Deputy Majority Leader was seen fidgeting with his phone as he sat in the parliamentary chamber.

Meanwhile, another incumbent MP, Ahmadu Sorogho was spotted wearing an all-white attire.
