Raid At Npp Hqrs: Afoko Allies In Dogfight!

A Fierce war of words has erupted between two personalities in the camp of on-suspension National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over whether or not chairman Afoko’s house was broken into by armed men prior to the purported military raid at the party’s headquarters last Monday dawn.

The two are singing discordant tunes. Whilst Spokesperson for the embattled chairman Paul Afoko refutes the claim being bandied about by second vice chairman of the party, Sammy Crabbe, that the chairman's house was broken into by armed men, Sammy Crabbe maintains that the raid actually happened.

Nana Yaw Osei, who has been talking for Paul Afoko for over a year now, in an interview on Accra-based Starr FM, said the claim of Sammy Crabbe that his boss’ was attacked was untrue, adding that nothing of that sort happened to his boss.

But Sammy Crabbe, who now appears to be the darling boy of the former NPP Chairman said the incident, which has been reported to the police occurred while Mr. Afoko was at church.

“Afoko’s home was also attacked on Sunday, and the police was there. He was at church when the incident occurred so he had to call the police from church and they rushed there to save the situation. Most of the frames on his walls were destroyed by the attackers,” he said.

He claimed that even though no casualty was recorded, the attackers destroyed several items in the home of the embattled chairman of the elephant family.

Crabbe said the NPP must be cautious of what appeared like the systematic breakdown of law and order within their ranks.

GAF Denies involvement

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied any involvement in the recent raid at the headquarters of the main opposition party’s headquarters.

Spokesperson of the Armed Forces, Lt. Col Aggrey Quarshie said none of his men were involved in the invasion at the NPP head office.

“The Armed Forces has not officially sanctioned anybody to do anything at the NPP headquarters and we are waiting for the police to come out with its findings then we can take it from there,” Lt. Col. Quarshie told sections of the media yesterday.

According to the NPP, a group of 15 armed men in military uniform entered its Asylum Down headquarters during the wee hours of Monday and ransacked some offices within.

“The uniform and the red t-shirted men proceeded to break into various offices and vandalized/ ransacked them. At the various offices, particularly at the office of the Director for elections, computer hard drives were taken together with several files and other documentation. Shortly after, a detachment from the Nima police station arrived on the compound,” the communications director of the elephant family Nana Akomea told the media.

Twelve people have so far been arrested in connection with the crime. Initial reports linked the attacks to suspended national chairman Paul Afoko. He has, however in a statement, condemned the incident.

However, Police sources say the ringleader of the 12 persons arrested for ransacking the NPP Headquarters has confessed that suspended NPP Chairman, Paul Afoko masterminded the dawn raid.

Four party supporters, the paper gathered, have also written and submitted a statement to the Police revealing that they were called and conveyed from Odorkor to the Headquarters in Assylum Down in Accra under the impression that they were attending a party only for the rules of engagement to change when they got to the party headquarters

The statement jointly signed by the four explained that they were part of an estimated 400 supporters who were driven in two buses to the party headquarters for the dawn party. But after arriving at the headquarters many suspected they were being deceived after T-Shirts were shared to them ostensibly for a different operation.
