WACAM Salutes Okyenhene

Wassa Association of Communities Affected by Mining (WACAM), a non governmental advocacy organization, has congratulated the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of his ascending of the Paramount Ofori Panin Stool of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area. WACAM said Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin has become a model of Traditional Authority and has inspired respect and admiration among many people including community members, Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), politicians, academicians, and environmentalists both in Ghana and abroad. Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin is an embodiment of indigenous knowledge, which serves national interest and has demonstrated that this form of knowledge is relevant in finding solutions to contemporary issues such as climate change, poverty development and HIV/AIDS, among others. The work of Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin is deeply rooted in patriotism and strong commitment to the protection of the environment for posterity. The King has demonstrated humility and engaged in Celebrity advocacy for the poor and politically disadvantaged people of the country. He has also been an ardent advocate of responsible exploitation of natural resources in meeting the needs of the current generation and gained National and International recognition for his commitment to the protection of Forest Reserves despite pressure by corporate giants to mine in the Forest Reserves of the country. The Okyenhenes vision of institutionalising environmental education in Ghana through the establishment of a University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies needs the commendation and support of all patriotic Ghanaians. A decade of Osagyefos reign has been a period of excellence in demonstrating the relevance of indigenous knowledge in addressing contemporary National and Global challenges. It is in recognition of his invaluable contributions to environmental issues and social justice that WACAM had congratulated him on his 10th Anniversary celebrations, noting, We pray that he would continue to be a fountain of knowledge and hope for many people, especially the poor and marginalized in society.
