Rachael Appoh Must Apologise To Mahama Allotey Jacobs

Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey-Jacobs has called on Gomoa Central NDC MP, Rachael Appoh to render an unqualified apology to President John Mahama for revealing she paid money to persons to reduce the NO votes for the President in the NDC primaries.

Allotey-Jacobs is not amused by the disclosure, said on Adom FM's Morning Show, 'Dwaso Nsem' on Thursday that was an indictment not only on the President but the NDC party in general as according to him, the party is not known for bribing people to get votes.

“I will prevail upon her to apologise to the party and to the President for making such claims…our party does not pay to get people to vote for us…,” he said.

The former deputy minister at the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection, Rachel Appoh, revealed after the NDC primaries over the weekend that she had to pay her constituents to reduce the NO votes against President Mahama.

“I worked tirelessly before managing to reduce the NO VOTE against the President. The people wanted to vote against President Mahama because they feel they have been denied the LEAP initiative by the Gender and Social Protection Ministry.

“If you look at the District LEAP initiative poverty ranking, we are second and so my people do not understand why they should be denied that initiative,” Appoh said.

Appoh added: “I had to spend for the NO VOTE against the President to get reduced to 350. Even with this figure, I cried, begged and paid some money to some people before I was able to achieve that.”

Mahama received a 95% endorsement, having polled 1,199,118 'Yes' votes representing 95.10%.

Out of the over two million party members expected to cast their votes, 61,836 voted 'No' representing 4.90% in relation to President Mahama’s. 2% of the ballots cast were rejected.

This revelation, has led to an uproar within the NDC party with several persons alluding to the fact that she siezed the opportunity to drum home her long-held belief that her disagreement with the Gender Minister led to the sidelining of her constituency in the LEAP disbursement.

But Allotey-Jacobs insists he would have used his good offices to solve that problem if it had been brought to his attention.

“She has not reported the matter of her not receiving LEAP to the regional executives. If she had done that, I would have pursued that on her behalf because I am cool with (sector Minister) Nana Oye Lithur…,” Allotey said.
