I Dont Know If Williams Is Ghanaian, Grant Says

The former Chelsea manager claims the GFA are still undertaking background checks on the inform Spain-born forward. Ghana coach Avram Grant says there are still uncertainties surrounding the identity of Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams. Born to a Ghanaian father and a Liberian mother in Basque, the Spain U-21 frontman has been on the radar of the Black Stars following a series of fine performances in La Liga as well as the Europa League. Last week, the Ghana FA communications director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, revealed that Grant had been in touch with the striker over a possible nationality switch. About Inaki Williams, I dont know if he is Ghanaian, we are checking, Grant told Metro TV. We found out that his father is Ghanaian and his mother is from Liberia and he is Spanish. Were finding solutions with him and the positive is that he is a good player. Grant led the Black Stars to clinch silver at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations following his appointment in December. He insists hes still in the process of building a fearsome side. We are trying to build the squad. Im very happy that the players I picked for the Afcon proved themselves, Grant said. I want to have a big squad, like 35 players whom I have seen, and know everything about. I need quality, more players that can deliver as well as talents from the CHAN team [home-based Black Stars], the Under-23 set-up and the Under-20 side. Ghana will be back in action in March 2016 when they take on Mozambique in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header.
