Two palm fruits thieves fined

Two farmers who stole 170 palm fruit bunches from the farms of two farmers were on Monday fined a total of GHC 1,000.00 by the Kade District Magistrate Court. In default, Michael Dogbe and Kwabena William, who both pleaded guilty, will serve 12 months in prison each. Additionally, they were ordered to pay compensation of GHC 150 each to the complainants. Police Inspector Francis Cobbina told the court that both the convicts and the complainants lived at Akyem Nkwantanang. He said on August 19 Kwasi Boateng, visited his farm and detected that 80 oil palm fruits bunches had been harvested by unknown persons. On his return home someone who also had a farm in the same area told him that on the previous day he met Dogbe and William conveying bunches of palm fruits from the farm of Asibi Bermuabah, to the roadside. When questioned, Dogbe claimed that they were sending the fruits to Asibi who was the first complainants farm owner. He said on hearing that Boateng went to enquire from Asibi whether she had asked the convicts to do any harvesting for her. TAsibi expressed surprise of what she had heard and therefore went to her farm only to realize that 90 fruit bunches had been harvested without her authority. The two complainants reported the case to the police and Dogbe and William were arrested.
