Establish tertiary institution at BekwaiOmanhene urges SDA

Nana Karikari Apau II, paramount chief of the Asante Bekwai traditional area, has appealed to the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church to establish a teacher training college or university in the area to bring tertiary education closer to the people. He said after pioneering the promotion of quality education in the traditional area, it was time the church established a tertiary institution to ensure that the youth had easy access to higher education. This, according to the chief, would not only help to improve the standard of living and social status of the people, but would further position the church as the true bedrock of education in the area. Nana Apau made the call in an address read for him at the annual camp meeting of the Bekwai East District of the SDA church at Bekwai on Saturday. The week long meeting, which was under the theme, Mission of Hope, aimed at strengthening the faith of the members of the church in God and the teachings of the church. Nana Apau said the traditional council was ready to collaborate and offer the needed support to the church, to enable it realize the dream of establishing a tertiary institution in the area. He commended the church for its continued promotion of quality education and health care delivery in the area, and pledged the support of the chiefs and people in the area in that direction. Nana Apau further advised parents to ensure that the education of their children became their prime objective, since that was the only legacy they could bequeath to them. Pastor Josiah Osei Twum, Personal Ministries Director of the South Central Ghana Conference of the SDA church, who preached the sermon, said salvation was still available to mankind and urged members of the church to continue to witness and evangelize to win more souls for Christ. He said the Holy Ghost was still present in the lives of the faithful and it was through it, that man could receive salvation from God. Pastor Twum advised Christians to rededicate themselves to the work of God and continue to proclaim his kindness.
