Suhum MCE Resigns

THE MUNICIPAL Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum Municipality, Samuel Fletcher Kwabi has resigned.

Even though the MCE has outlined some reasons for his resignation, the DAILY HERITAGE can report that there are other issues that have compelled him to resign.

Hon. Kwabi before his resignation expressed bitterness over what he calls conspiracy to sabotage his political career by some bigwigs within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a letter dated November 24, 2015 signed by the MCE and addressed to the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the MCE stated that "I regret to notify you of my decision to resign from office-Chief Executive of Suhum Municipal Assembly.

“The above decision is without any malice but rather as a matter of principle. As a Chief Executive for the past seven years, I had to implement many hard but cogent decisions of the Assembly, some of which brought fierce resistance and confrontation from some party functionaries and executives both within and outside the municipality.

“There are many more of such decisions which if not implemented could render the assembly impotent and ineffective but now that I have lost the parliamentary primary, any attempt to implement them is likely to be misinterpreted or misconstrued.

“In order not to worsen the already highly volatile situation, I deem it very honourable to bow out of office when the applaud is loudest and call for my replacement in the interest of our great party the NDC."

The letter further states that," as stipulated  in my letter of appointment, I wish to seize this opportunity to serve His Excellency the President the mandatory three months notice of my resignation letter from office as a Chief Executive. I wish to thank H.E President   John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in me by re-appointing me as the Chief Executive for Suhum.

“I want to assure His Excellency of my unflinching support and continuous support for him and the parliamentary candidate-elect, and also assure him that I would openly campaign for both of them to ensure total victory in the 2016 polls even in my private capacity."

But, despite these reasons stated by the MCE, the DAILY HERITAGE can state that, the MCE resigned because he feels frustrated by some officials in the NDC because he contested some bigwigs and created enemies within the party.
