Tension is mounting in Bunkprugu in the Bun-kprugu/Yunyoo District of the Northern Region, following the mysterious death of two brothers in the community on Saturday.

The deceased Kenneth Jukparuk and Bitian Fiibak went missing on Thursday.

They were later found dead in the outskirts of the community on Saturday.

Sensing danger, the family together with sympathisers formed a search team, which combed the village the next day without success.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bunkprugu/Yunyoo, Timothy Laari Sampoa, who confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times, said tension was mounting in the area, partly because there was disagreement over where to bury the bodies after the post-mortem.

“While the family of the deceased are demanding for the bodies to be buried in Bunkprugu, the chief objected to it,” he said.

Mr. Sampoa said the DISEC held meetings to resolve the issue amicable.

He said the District Security Committee (DISEC) had beefed up security there to avert any disturbance.

He also said the two brothers were found dead in an abandoned house at the outskirts of Bunkprugu on the early hours on Saturday.

The DCE said the bodies had been deposited at the Nalerigu BMC Hospital in East Mamprusi District for post-mortem to be performed to establish the cause of the death.

Though, the district authority has no proof to link the incident to the long standing chieftaincy conflict between the Jamong and Jafok families in Bunkprugu, reliable source from the community revealed that the family of the deceased were suspecting the two might have been murdered by their opponent.

Mr. Samuel Laabik a resident of Bunkprugu told The Ghanaian Times that the death of the two brings to four, the number of persons from the two chieftaincy divide that have been murdered in similar circumstances.

He expressed fear that there might be some escalation of tension in the community as both families were arming themselves in readiness for a clash.
