GNPC Hasnt Paid Me Ex-Gratia Esther Cobbah

Madam Esther Amba Numaba Cobbah has denied ever being paid any amount by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) as being alleged by Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, K.T. Hammond.

Mr Hammond had alleged that Madam Cobbah and three others were paid an amount of GHȻ1 million as compensation for work done.

Madam Cobbah, who worked in various capacities for GNPC in 1989 as the Public Affairs Manager, said although she is owed significant amounts for work done for the corporation, no payment has been made to her as is being alleged.

“The truth is that as at now no payment has been made to me by GNPC though I am owed significant amounts for work done and from my contributions to the Provident Fund whilst I was in the employment of the corporation.”

She explained that in 1989, while she worked as the Public Affairs Manager of the corporation, she was sent on secondment to the West African Gas Pipeline in 1999 as the External Affairs Manager, a role she occupied until May 2001, when she was “unexpectedly” removed from the project by the then minister of energy.

She said even though her appointment as External Affairs Manager of the West African Gas Pipeline project was not a government appointment over which the then Minister had authority, she decided not to contest the issue, “having regard to the circumstances of the day”.

“Soon after this notification, I was again notified by the corporation that my services in the corporation were no longer needed. To this day, my entitlements, including my end of service benefits, my Provident Fund entitlements as well as the arrears of remuneration for my period of secondment to the West African Gas Pipeline project have not been paid.”

She is, however, of the view that Mr K.T. Hammond’s recent statements are calculated attempts to deny her what’s due her after service rendered to the corporation.
