Black Stars Victory Boost Sales

Traders in the country, especially Accra and Kumasi, saw their sales shooting-up as a result of the Black Stars� 2-0 victory over their Sudanese counterparts, the Desert Hawks, a victory that has given Ghana the green light to start preparations towards South Africa 2010. With their victory over Sudan, Ghana has thus become the first African country to qualify alongside host nation, South Africa, to the up-coming 2010 World Cup to be held on the African continent. The sales of goods like the Black Stars� souvenirs, paraphernalia and the Ghana flag apparently went up as many football fans launched a search for it minutes after the match between Mali and Benin ended in a 101 draw. The items, which until last Sunday�s match, were selling as low as two Ghana Cedis (GH�2.00) and even less, apparently went up as high as five Ghana cedis (GH�5.00), and yet football fans were ready to buy as many as they could to celebrate the Black Stars� victory. But the exciting moment, which gave a boost to their sales, was when the Black Stars did what the fans have been waiting for. It was excitement galore as the football enthusiasts hit most of the major streets throughout the country in a jubilant mood. Like the usual Ghanaian way of celebrations, most of the drinking spots were besieged by many young and old fans, who decided to celebrate their excitement with some hard drinks. Many young lovers also took advantage of the excitement brought to the country by the gallant stars to meet their loved ones as it has always been associated with celebrations in the Ghanaian society. Meanwhile, Black Stars Captain Stephen Appiah, has advised his colleagues not to rest on the current success chalked by the team, but should continue to fight on to win all the eighteen points at stake in the on-going African cum World Cup qualifiers. He said, even though Ghana has qualified to the World Cup for the second time, the Black Stars players still have to fight on to make a hundred percent record by winning all the eighteen points. The former Accra Hearts of Oak, Juventus and Fenerbachie midfielder, who was speaking to newsmen after the match on Sunday, noted that, the Black Stars must use the qualifiers to better Ghana�s position on the FIFA rankings.He congratulated the players for their dedication, commitment and team spirit to ensure a success for Ghana. He again thanked fans for their support and prayers for the team and appealed to them to continue to support the Black Stars in its endeavours. The Black Stars last Sunday qualified to the 2010 world cup in South Africa after playing four (4) matches and winning all with twelve (12) points. The Black Stars started the journey to South Africa 2010 by beating Benin 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. They then traveled to Mali and Sudan to secure 2-0 win in each of the two countries before sh9ipping their Sudanese counterparts on Sunday to become the first African Country to qualify to the 2010 World Cup alongside.However, some sports connoisseurs still hold the view that, even though the Black Stars have made it to the world cup, the technical team has a lot of work to do on the team before the tournament kicks-off in June 2010.
