National Farmers Day Gets Spicy As Farmers Receive Support From Vodafone

Cash and assorted mobile phone devices valued at GHS50, 000 have been presented to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture by Vodafone Ghana towards the 2015 National Farmers Day celebrations.

The items presented included a cheque for GHS20,000, a Samsung Galaxy Tablet to be given to the overall national best farmer, 10 Vodafone Nala mobile smartphones for regional winners, 100 basic phones for district level winners, and 3000 SIM cards with one month free subscription, 10 power-banks, and 50 T-shirts.

Presenting the items, External Affairs Director of Vodafone, Gayheart Mensah said: “Over the years, our quest to create a solid and admired brand continues to yield dividend.

We are excited to be part of this historic celebration. In Ghana, the agric sector has long been seen as the natural pathway to a total transformation of the country’s economic growth.

The fortunes of this country at the dawn of the post-colonial era were built on the strength of the farming community and we believe our association today will further strengthen this”

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Fiifi Kwetey, expressed gratitude to Vodafone for the gesture, and for introducing the Farmers Club to provide basic farming tips and price information in boosting the agricultural sector.

Mr Kwetey entreated other corporate entities to follow Vodafone’s shining example. “We are looking forward to collaborating with other corporate entities to assist us. We hope to equip our farmers to produce for the country”.

This year’s National Farmers Day will be celebrated in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, on the theme “Transform Ghana: Invest in Agriculture”.
