Exchequers retain Afahye Cup

Exchequers Hockey Club of Bank of Ghana on Sunday retained the Afahye Cup in a special hockey tournament held at the University of Cape Coast Hockey Pitch. The tournament was organized by the Central Region Hockey Association to climax the celebrations of the �Fetu Afahye� Festival of the Chiefs and people of Oguaa Traditional Area. Exchequers beat Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) 4-3 on penalties in the finals after the two had drawn 1-1 at full time. Golden Sticks took the third place after they lost 4-2 to CEPS in the semi-finals. In the women�s division, Ghana National Fire Service beat Kumasi Ladies 1-0 to lift the Women�s Cup in the finals. Twenty hockey clubs participated in the two-day tournament. Mr Entsuah Mensah, Chairman of the Central Regional Hockey Association who presented the Cups to the winners congratulated them on their impressive performances and appealed to corporate bodies to help support the Association with sponsorship during the next tournament. Present at the tournament were Mr Richard Akpokavie, Vice Chairman of the National Hockey Association, Colonel Ohene Asante, former Chief Executive of the National Sports Council and Mr Kenneth Johnfia. Among the clubs which participated in the tournament were Trustees, Veterans, Citizens, NDK, University of Cape Coast, Police Service, Multi Sticks, Western Raiders and Cape Coast Hockey Club.
