EC Suspends ID Replacement Exercise

The Electoral Commission (EC) yesterday released a statement to notify the general public, especially those who have lost or damaged their Voter Identity Cards and seeking replacement to hold on until further notice.

The statement signed by the acting Public Affairs Director, Mr. Christian Owusu Parry, stated that the “EC wishes to bring to the attention of the general public that the replacement of lost or damaged voter ID cards has been put on hold until further notice” without stating reasons for its action.

It said, the Commission would announce the date for resumption of the replacement as soon as practicable.

In separate statement Mr. Owusu Parry also indicated that the Commission had learnt of various false reports circulating in the media that the panel of eminent persons engaged to study various submissions on the voters register had submitted its report to the Commission.

He stated that the Electoral Commission wished to inform the general public and the media that the panel is yet to complete its work and no report had been submitted to the Commission.

“The public is therefore entreated to disregard the reports circulating in the media…” adding that, “the Commission wishes to assure the public that they will be informed of the recommendations of the panel and the final decision taken by the Commission on the register as soon as the requisite processes are concluded”.
