Burial took place on Saturday at the Royal Cemetery at Adusuazo, near Half-Assini, of the 1992 National Best Coconut Farmer, the late Mr Joseph Evonlah Whajah, affectionately called “Oldman.
He was the Proprietor of JEWs Farms at Adusuazo. and a renowned Traditional Medicine Practitioner in the Jomoro District.
The late Whajah, a renowned traditional medical practitioner, died at the age of 73. leaving behind a wife and 20 children.
He was born on December 25 1942, at Allengenzulley near Tikobo Number One in the Jomoro District to Mr Daniel Ekosi Evonlah and Madam Nyameke Emenlah, both of blessed memory, at Bonyere.
He had his Basic Education at the Roman Catholic Primary and Nyaneba Boarding Schools of Bonyere and Nkroful in Jomoro and Ellembelle Districts respectively, between 1956 and 1962.
He continued at the Half-Assini Secondary School (HASCO) between 1964 and 1969, after which he settled with his late uncle Mr Nyameke Terbah at Adusuazo and went into large scale farming.
Mr Whajah established cash crops, including coconut, citrus, oil palm and foodstuffs.
In 1987 he moved from Adusuazo to Half-Assini where he went into animal husbandry, rearing sheep, cattle, pigs, goats and poultry.
He won the Jomoro District overall Best Farmer Award in 1990, National Best Coconut Farmer in 1992, and Western Regional overall Best Farmer in 1997.
The late Mr Whajah who was a transporter, football administrator, a mystic and a prophet, died on September 12, after a short illness.
Dignitaries who attended the funeral included officials of the District Assembly, led by the District Coordinating Director, Mr Abudu Amadu, and the immediate past Jomoro DCE, Mr Sylvester Nuomah Daddieh.
Others were the former Jomoro MP and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Takoradi Polytechnic, Mr Joseph Emmanuel Ackah, Awulae Angamah-Tua-Gyan, Omanhene of the Gwira Traditional Area (Bamiangor), and President of the Nzema Maanle Council, Nana Ayebie Amihere the sixth, Half-Assini Chief and some other chiefs in the area.
