Animators lead community to cultivate maize and beans farm

Ms Eunice Opata and Mr Nicholas Adamtey, both Hunger Project-Ghana Animators, have mobilized the Obenyemi community in the Yilo Krobo District to cultivate five acres of maize and beans. Mr George Ofori, Project Officer, told the GNA that the two, who attended a Vision Commitment and Action Workshop, in Somanya last year, were putting into action what they learnt. He said Ms Opata and Mr Adamtey had shown enough commitment to their community and were spearheading developmental work. Mr Ofori said when harvested the maize would be stored and sold during the lean season, while the beans would be used to feed kindergarten kids to boost their nutritional intake. He said money generated from the sale of the maize would be invested in the community. Mr Ofori disclosed further that the Hunger Project-Ghana had constructed a crib in the community for the storage of the maize, adding that it had also supplied insecticides and spraying machine for the community to minimize post harvest losses. In another development, Ms Opata and Mr Adamtey, together with other Epicenter executives, are spearheading the construction of buildings in the community. Under the Epicenter project, a cluster of communities team up with the Hunger Project-Ghana to put up buildings for their communities. Mr Ofori said the multi- purpose buildings had facilities such as a clinic with nurses quarters, conference hall, community bank, a kindergarten, a food bank, among others. He said that was an integrated approach to fight against hunger and poverty adding that presently the epicenter communities had acquired a five-acre land and mobilized sand and stones to begin the construction. The Hunger Project is a non-governmental organization committed to the fight against hunger and extreme poverty.
