The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has adopted extra digital measures to drive fire safety campaign across the country with the launch of an informative portal – website: www.gnfs.gov.gh.
The website would also provide vital safety materials and serve as a digital platform for GNFS information communication technology and its drive towards development.
It also seeks to provide users with relevant information into the workings of the Service towards saving lives and property; offer users: news, fire safety education, technical advice, and other related information about GNFS.
Dr. Albert Brown Gaisie, Chief Fire Officer noted that a connected Fire Service with access to the web will empower both personnel and the general public with consistent up to date preventive information.
“We want to make sure that the public have a great, reliable, and relevant information for instance on procedures for acquiring fire certificate; safety tips for the workplace; how to use a fire extinguishers and types of fire extinguishers,” he said at the launch in Accra.
Dr Brown Gaisie said “it is my fervent hope that this platform provides you the general public with the necessary information you will need.
“I trust that this medium will serve as an interactive platform where the Fire Service churns out information to you and you giving us the needed feedback to help us improve on our service delivery”.
Dr Edward K. Omane Boamah, Minister of Communication who launched the website commended the GNFS for the tremendous work they were doing to save life and property at the peril of their own lives.
“I salute you officers for the manner you handled in particular the Central Medical Store fire outbreak; there were other sensitive installations, business entities within the vicinity but you were able to professional contain the fire.
“For your professionalism, the impact would have been greater and disastrous spreading over wide environment”.
Dr Omane Boamah whiles commending GNFS for setting up the website, noted that climate change poses great challenge to the work of Fire Service; stressing that “impacts of climate change are already resulting in economic losses around the world”.
He said Government will continue to invest in the service to map-up strategies to combat climate change and their economic implications, and in estimating the costs of adaptation to climate change impacts, including through economic analysis of adaptation options.
The website designed by the Technical Department of the Fire Service also provides vital information including emergency numbers, regional office address and contact of Fire Service Stations, and platform for feedback.
It also serves as Research and Academic platform on the core values of the Service which are explicitly reflected in eight cardinal points represented by the eight-sided insignia of the service.
